On Tuesday 8th November, 2011, a contingent of NASS members visited the Tata Strip Products site in Port Talbot, South Wales.
The delegates were shown around the site and saw the BOS Plant, Hot Mill, Cold Mill and the CAPL.
NASS President and MD of Clifton Steel Ltd, Roger Shafi, said about the visit: “The Mill Visit was an excellent experience for all involved, I never tire of watching steel being made and the delegates were mesmerised by the converter been tapped and charged. We visited the Hot Mill, where we all saw Slabs been converted into Coils – a very dynamic and interesting process. This was a very worthwhile day, for all of us, including Michael Worley (a veteran of 50 years in the steel industry and Chairman of William King Ltd.) had a very nostalgic day, having started his career working in Port Talbot. Special thanks to Tata Steel, John Flynn and his team, for making our visit one that we will remember for many years to come”.
Ian Harding, MD of Brown & Tawse Steel Stock Ltd., said: “The visit was extremely well organised and all attending seemed to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the presentation by John Flynn and the mill tour. We were given the mill tour by Colin, a retired ex-employee, who was most informative. All together a very worthwhile visit“.
